Walhallow Public School's champion relay team has gone to Sydney and blown away the competition, winning a silver medal at the State Athletics Championships. The team was sent off in style with banners made and children running down the fence screaming support for the team as the bus moved away from the school.
The team arrived in Sydney and settled into their accommodation. To build team spirit, the adults decided that a trip to "Dooley's" for dinner was in order. With much pleading and batting of eyelids, the children collected funds to enjoy a few hours in the games arcade while the parents met to prepare strategies for the next day.
Finally, the day was here. All the practice, all the lead up was culminating in this moment - the heat. Parents waited anxiously for the call up...

With the heat over and a second place under their belts, the team headed over for some lunch and more strategic planning. After eating, the team stretched and warmed up for the semi-final. The competition was fierce and another second place was earned.
The team came together and was surprised by a cunning plan hatched by Mrs. Nean to change the order of the runners. Careful negotiation ensued and once all parties had agreed, the team trialed their new order for precision.

The time had come! Walhallow drew a good lane and the crowd hushed as the team concentrated for the starters gun......then they were off! With a tremendous amount of screaming and cheering, the crowd lifted out of their seats as the team jostled and pushed from 5th place to 3rd and then as they came to the final straight, Abbey fell just short of gold by 9 one hundredths of a second!!!! Literally a toenail!

CONGRATULATIONS Team!!!!
There will be a celebration BBQ at school for the whole community to celebrate.
